Junior Test Automation Engineer
About the Role
Our Marketing Automation team is looking for a detail-oriented Junior Test Automation Engineer to join our ranks. In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the reliability and quality of our platform, which helps businesses automate complex communication journeys at scale. You will focus on building and maintaining automated test suites that safeguard our user experience, catching bugs before they ever reach production.
This is a growth-oriented position for someone early in their career who is passionate about quality assurance and wants to specialize in modern automation frameworks. You will start with guided tasks and evolve into a key driver of our automated testing strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain automated end-to-end tests using Playwright
Collaborate with developers to understand new features and design corresponding test cases
Identify, document, and track software defects and inconsistencies
Assist in expanding our regression test suites to ensure platform stability
Participate in the software development lifecycle, ensuring quality is considered from the start
Learn to integrate automated tests into our CI/CD pipelines (GitLab/GCP)
Perform manual testing when necessary to understand complex user workflows
Gradually take ownership of specific testing areas as your expertise grows
Preferred Skills
Foundational knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript (as Playwright is our primary tool)
A strong understanding of the software testing lifecycle and a "quality-first" mindset
Familiarity with web technologies (HTML, CSS, DOM structures)
Knowledge of version control systems (We use GitLab)
A proactive "problem-solver" approach with a keen eye for detail
Ability to communicate technical bugs and issues clearly to the development team
Eagerness to learn and adapt to new testing tools and methodologies
Nice to Have
Previous experience with Playwright or other automation frameworks (Cypress, Selenium, etc.)
Basic understanding of PHP and React (to better understand our application’s inner workings)
Familiarity with API testing and tools like Postman
Experience with CI/CD tools and cloud environments (we are fully GCP)
Previous experience through internships, personal projects, or testing bootcamps
We are looking for an eager engineer to join our ranks. We value a "growth mindset" above all else; this role is designed to evolve alongside your skills, moving from assisted testing to independent test architecture. Whether you are looking for a permanent position or a fixed-term arrangement to kickstart your career, we are looking for a long-term commitment to the team. We are also open to discussing internship possibilities for the right candidate.
Our offices are located in Oulu and Helsinki. We prefer candidates who are able to visit the office when needed, though remote work is a well-established practice at Liana.
